Key responsibilities of a journeyman plumber:
Installation and repair: We install new plumbing systems, including pipes, fittings, valves, and fixtures like toilets, sinks, and faucets, as well as repair existing plumbing systems and leaks.
Diagnosis and troubleshooting: Identifying the source of plumbing issues, such as leaks, clogs, or faulty fixtures, and determining the best action to resolve them.
Preventative maintenance: Performing routine inspections and maintenance on plumbing systems to prevent future problems.
Reading blueprints: Interpreting plumbing plans and schematics to install and repair systems accurately.
Code compliance: Ensuring all work adheres to local plumbing codes and regulations.
Customer interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their needs, explaining repair options, and providing estimates.
Apprentice supervision: Training and mentoring apprentice plumbers on the job site.
Required skills and qualifications:
Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program
Proficiency with various plumbing tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, wrenches, soldering tools, and drain augers
Strong understanding of plumbing codes and safety regulations
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Physical stamina to work in confined spaces and perform demanding tasks
